Tom Gierasimczuk leaving Marketing magazine
Gierasimczuk leaving Marketing,
Marketing magazine’s editor-in-chief, Tom Gierasimczuk, is heading west. Again.
Gierasimczuk, a Toronto native, has accepted a position as director of audience development and editor-in-chief of BCBusiness, a flagship title of Canada Wide Media based in Burnaby. He will end his current role at the end of the month.
Gary Davies, who Gierasimczuk worked with for a number of years at RedPoint Media Group in Calgary (Gierasimczuk was also posted in Victoria), recently became president of Canada Wide and reached out to Gierasimczuk with the opportunity.
Gierasimczuk will also be working with Karen Hounjet, who was previously with RedPoint as vice president of sales.
In addition to working alongside familiar faces, “Canada Wide’s got 40-plus titles, which is another amazing thing that really attracted me to the company,” he said.
Director of audience development is a new position, according to Gierasimczuk. “It speaks to the need of all media companies, publishing no exception, to approach business with an audience-first mandate,” he said. “It’s not about what publishing companies can do, it’s what audiences need.”
No replacement editor-in-chief has yet been named for Marketing, he said. “The team has been absolutely phenomenal,” he said of his current staff. “[Marketing] was educational and fun, I’ve never worked harder and learned more. I came in at a crucial time for advertising and marketing.”
In other publishing world moves: Popi Bowman has been named editor of custom publications at Contempo Media (publisher of Sharp). She has experience working for several magazines primarily in the U.S.
