The Taste of the Middle East Festival wrapped up its three-day events this year in the city of Mississauga on Sunday, bringing with it a colorful celebration of Middle Eastern cuisine, music, arts, and culture.
The 6th Annual Taste of the Middle East Festival 2023 was held at the Mississauga Convention Centre and it was like a walk through the streets & souks of the Arabic culture and community, serving up the delightful tastes of the Middle East’s diversified flavours and cultures.
The festival featured a variety of vendors and restaurants serving up an array of Middle Eastern fare, including Lebanese shawarma, Turkish kebabs, and Syrian sweets. Each dish was a reflection of the rich history and diversity of Middle Eastern cuisine, with vendors showcasing the unique flavors and techniques of their respective cultures.
A number of federal and provincial officials were keen to visit the festival this year, including Transport Minister, Omar Alghabra, Minister of Housing and Diversity and Inclusion, Ahmed Hussen, and MPP Sheref Sabawy.
The children also enjoyed many games, activities, and shows in our Kids Carnival in partnership with “The Day Events”.
Another highlight of the festival was the live entertainment, with performances by traditional Middle Eastern musicians and dancers. The music and dance added to the festive atmosphere, transporting attendees to the bustling streets of Beirut or Istanbul.
The non-profit organization, which was established in 2018, intends to recognize, showcase and celebrate Middle Eastern cultures in Southern Ontario.
They also wish to make a safe space for like-minded communities to participate and feel a sense of belonging, according to its website.
The Taste of the Middle East Festival 2023 was not only a celebration of Middle Eastern cuisine but also a showcase of the cultural diversity and history of the region. The festival brought together people from all walks of life to experience the sights, sounds, and flavors of the Middle East.
The success of the festival highlights the growing interest in Middle Eastern cuisine and culture in Toronto and beyond. For those who missed the festival, there are still many opportunities to explore the flavors of the Middle East in the city. From hole-in-the-wall eateries to upscale restaurants, Toronto has a thriving Middle Eastern food scene that’s worth exploring.
