The National Council on Canada Arab Relations (NCCAR) celebrated April Arab Heritage Month with a special “Food & Fashion” Iftar dinner on April 19, 2023, at the KS on the Keys Restaurant in Ottawa. The event was a success, with Canadians of all backgrounds coming together to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the Arab community.

The Iftar dinner featured a delicious meal of traditional Arab cuisine, as well as a fashion show highlighting the beauty and diversity of Arab fashion. The keynote speaker for the evening was the Honorable David McGuinty, Member of Parliament for Ottawa South, who spoke about the importance of celebrating Arab Heritage Month and recognizing the contributions of Arab Canadians to Canadian society and culture.

Deputy David McGuinty was also a key architect of the bill that sets April as the month of Arab Heritage in Canada, and he was honored for his tireless efforts in introducing and passing this historic legislation. The National Council on Canada Arab Relations believes that this legislation will help to promote greater understanding and appreciation for the Arab Canadian community and foster a greater sense of unity and inclusivity among all Canadians.

Dr. Abdulhamid Al-Sheikh, the President of the National Council on Canada Arab Relations, expressed his excitement for the event and his hopes that it would showcase the richness and diversity of Arab culture and promote greater understanding and appreciation among all Canadians.

The “Food & Fashion” Iftar dinner was a delightful evening of cultural celebration, delicious food, and stunning fashion, and an opportunity for all Canadians to come together and appreciate the contributions of Arab Canadians to Canadian society. The event was made possible thanks to the support of many individuals and organizations who share NCCAR’s vision of a more inclusive and equitable society for all.
