Do you ever wonder how great ideas come about? What was the trigger, the spark or the tipping point that took something ordinary and made it extraordinary?

Now’s YOUR chance to find out. The YOU Innovate Canada tournament will show you that the spark of a great business idea simply comes from looking at an ordinary thing in an extraordinary way, an entrepreneurial way.
For the second year, this national tournament will be held in celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week Canada (GEW Canada) to provide an opportunity for every Canadian over 16 years to engage with, connect to and see the value of entrepreneurship in their lives.
In 2011, using the coffee cup as the ordinary everyday object, participants demonstrated that we all define value in different ways. Over 100 videos were submitted showing that for some, value is monetary, for others it is environmental, and others yet, it was creating art or putting a smile on someone’s face!

This September, Canadians will be asked to turn their minds to creating new value out of a new ordinary everyday object. YOU Innovate Canada participants will use that object as the raw material to create a new innovation, define its value and submit a brief video about their innovation for the chance to receive exciting prizes!

 Are you an educator? Here’s how you can get involved!
We are offering useful resources to help you use the tournament to teach high school and post-secondary students about innovation, creativity, entrepreneurship and value. Students who produce a video as part of your course can then submit their video for the national tournament.
We encourage educators across Canada to incorporate the YOU Innovate Canada tournament into their lesson plans for the fall of 2012. For more information, click here.
