Some of Canada’s greatest entertainers will take the stage at the 2012 Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame Gala Dinner and Induction Ceremony at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, September 21.
Hosted by eTalk’s Ben Mulroney and Olympic broadcaster and three-time Olympic medallist Catriona Le May Doan, Friday’s Gala will feature performances by music stars Hedley, Stephan Moccio, The Canadian Tenors, Marie-Mai and Cirque du Soleil. The spectacular night of entertainment will also feature performances by surprise guests.
The day will start with the Olympic Heroes Parade, running through downtown Toronto, starting at 11:30am. TSN Personality Cabbie Richards will host a celebration at the end of the parade route – Maple Leaf Square, just outside the Air Canada Centre. Music sensation Neverest will help Canadian fans welcome members of the 2012 Canadian Olympic Team to Toronto.
“The 2012 Celebration of Excellence is a celebration of the best Canadian talent,” said Canadian Olympic Committee President Marcel Aubut. “Our Olympic heroes have given their everything to achieve the most ambitious goals and we will honour those achievements with an absolutely superb show.”
The 2012 Hall of Fame inductees will include three Olympic champions: Beckie Scott (Cross-Country Skiing), Daniel Igali (Wrestling) and Jean-Luc Brassard (Freestyle Skiing). From hockey, the 2010 men’s team and 2006 women’s team will enter the Hall in the ‘Team’ category.
Freestyle ski pioneer Sarah Burke will be posthumously enshrined for her trailblazing work as a ‘Builder’ in her sport. Legendary Synchronized Swimming coach Julie Sauvé will be inducted for her illustrious career. In addition, past Canadian Olympic Committee President Michael Chambers will receive the Canadian Olympic Order, recognizing his contributions to the Olympic Movement in Canada.
The 2012 Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame Gala Dinner and Induction Ceremony is presented by Gold Sponsors Bombardier, RBC, Teck and Thomson Reuters.
Net proceeds from the event directly support the Canadian Olympic Team and their quest for Olympic glory through the Canadian Olympic Foundation.
Running September 19-21 in Ottawa and Toronto, the Celebration of Excellence will be the official welcome home for the 2012 Canadian Olympic Team and represents Canadians’ opportunity to show our collective appreciation to the Canadian Olympians who have made us proud.
The Celebration of Excellence festivities break out into three main events, including the Olympic Heroes Tour, the Olympic Heroes Parade and the Olympic Hall of Fame Gala Dinner and Induction Ceremony.
