Canada announced on Thursday an additional $50 million in funding as part of its continued response to the humanitarian needs of people in Afghanistan and neighboring countries.
This came at the High-Level Pledging Event on Supporting the Humanitarian Response in Afghanistan 2022, convened by the UN, Qatar, the United Kingdom, and Germany,
This assistance will be delivered through the UN and other established humanitarian partners with the operational capacity to respond to these needs. With Canada’s support, partners will provide life-saving assistance, such as food and nutrition, emergency health care, clean water and sanitation, and protection services.
“The people of Afghanistan are resilient and strong. I have witnessed their courage and determination many times. But with every day that goes by, the situation is getting worse for them, and there is no doubt that Afghanistan is on the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe. The additional support announced today will help provide some much-needed relief,” Harjit Sajjan, Minister of International Development and Minister responsible for the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada, said in a statement.
